Posting. . .

Posting is a series of paintings and vinyl cut text that replicate different digital social media platforms that I use, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tik-Tok, and Snapchat. The vinyl cuts of text bubbles are based on The Red Record Tabulated Statistics and Alleged Causes of Lynching in the United States, by Ida B. Wells.  The book recounts horrible, unjust murders of Black people, many of whom were killed regardless of how minor the crime was or if they were innocent or guilty.

For each platform, I have created posts based on real events, imagery, and texts from the 19th and 20th centuries that reflect causal historical racism in the United States. Much of this content would be considered blatantly racist by today’s standards. For those time periods, however, this content is within societal norms and represents casual racism.
